General Information

Fujian Province is abbreviated as Min .In the Qin Dynasty Min-Zhong Prefecture was up in this area. In the early Han Dynasty (202 BC), Min-Yue State was brought into being .In 733 AD, Kaiyuan Reign of Tang Dynasty, an official post of Fujian-Jinglue-Shi was established. Form then on the name Fujian cane into being. During the South Song Dynasty the administration in Fujian was divided into one Fu, five Zhous, and two Juns, which were all of the same official rank. Thus, Fujian is also called Eight Min.

Situated in China’s southeastern coastal area, Fujian boasts a landmass of 121,400 sq. km., of which 80% is mountainous, and a maritime space of 130.000sq.km. It has a population of 34 million. Under its jurisdiction there ate nine municipalities, Fuzhou, Xiamen, Quanzhou, Zhangzhou, Putina, Sanming, Nanping, Longyan, and Ningde, with 84counties(or cities at county level) and districts.

 

Facing Taiwan across the Straits, Fujian is the starting point of the ancient Maritime Silk Route .It is also a major province along the southeastern coat opening to the outside word .The coastline is 3,300 km long, creating more than 120 natural harbors of all sizes with favorable conditions from the south to the north.

 

Locates in the subtropical zone, Fujian is influenced by the subtropical oceanic monsoon climate, enjoying warm weather and plenty of rainfall .The annual mean temperature ranges between 17and 21.It is rich in resources. Dozens of mineral deposits are available .The forest coverage reaches 60.5%, ranking first in the country.

Major ethnic groups in Fujian are the She, Hui, Man, Miao, and Gaoshan. Among the overseas Chinese and Chinese with foreign citizenship all over the world 10 million are of Fujian origin. And 1.23 million compatriots in Hong Kong and Macao, as well as 80% of the Taiwanese, trace their ancestral roots to Fijian.
